Elaine Mao is an undergraduate student researcher who joined the Innovative Mobility Research group in June 2010. She is studying at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) and will graduate in May 2011 with a B.A. in rhetoric and applied mathematics, with emphases on the history and theory of rhetoric and operations research, respectively. At present, she is researching literature on consumer reactions to alternative fuel vehicles, such as plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles.

After graduation, Elaine hopes to pursue a career in either journalism or environmental policy. She volunteers at UCB's student-run radio station, KALX 90.7, and is also involved in the Bay Area Environmentally Aware Consulting Network. In her spare time, Elaine enjoys reading, listening to music, watching cartoons, and spending time with friends and family.
