Project
description
IMR researchers are currently evaluating the EJ implications
of smart growth on
Sacramento’s
Blueprint Project, a region-wide planning process that promotes compact,
mixed-use development and more transit choices as an alternative to low-density
development. This participatory process
included more than 5,000 residents and established the Preferred Blueprint
Scenario, a long range regional vision rooted in smart growth principles. The Preferred Blueprint Scenario provides a
way for the region to grow through 2050 in a manner generally consistent with
the Blueprint growth principles.
More specifically, IMR is examining the EJ effects of smart
growth (the Preferred Blueprint Scenario) and an urban sprawl scenario (the
Base Case Study) from the
Sacramento
region with advanced land use and travel demand models, using the PECAS and the SACMET modeling systems. The
EJ effects will include the economic benefits or losses (for example, change in
access to jobs, goods, and services) to households in different income levels
by specific locations in the
Sacramento
region.
