Project
Description
In 2006 and 2007, IMR researchers, in conjunction with the 511 Regional Rideshare Program, developed and implemented an
on-line survey of 511 program
registrants to evaluate the rideshare program.
511 is a free phone and Web
service that provides up-to-the-minute information on Bay Area traffic
conditions, incidents and driving times, schedule, route and fare information,
instant carpool and vanpool referrals, bicycling information and additional
transportation-related information.
511 Rideshare used
the survey results to determine the effectiveness of the program in encouraging
individuals to switch from driving alone to using commuter alternatives,
particularly carpooling and vanpooling. The survey also asked questions about
participants' experience with the 511
Rideshare Program, as well as their opinions about carpooling and
vanpooling.
